Terraria is arguably one of the greatest Indie games ever developed, taking the concepts of a procedurally generated world with crafting elements and ramping them up to eleven. But a handful of developers have produced titles that not only stand up next to the juggernaut but put their own unique spin on the formula it helped to create. There's no denying that Minecraft was one of the most influential titles ever created, with a lot of developers attempting their own version of an "open-world procedurally generated survival crafting game." There have been a lot of imitators over the years, many of which fell short of capturing the same magic as Minecraft. While not canon with the base game or its prequel, Undead Nightmare is the type of thing Rockstar should do more often. Set during a period in American history defined by change, Red Dead Redemptionblends thrilling Western gameplay with timeless themes of agency, violence, and governmental influence. The combat is probably GOTG's weakest link since only Star-Lord is playable, which feels like a missed opportunity, but it is by no means awful either. More importantly, the game gets the banter between the characters just right, and all the Guardians are given their moment to shine. GOTG has a fun storyline that balances humor and drama quite well. The space-traveling heroes find themselves dragged into a conflict that could have dire repercussions for the cosmos, instigating a journey that includes voyages to quite a few different planets. Thankfully, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxyproved doubters wrong with an awesome single-player experience that captures the magic of both the comics and the MCU. Tron Lines: These show up on a lot of objects, but one bizarre place they show up in is in a forest area, where they occasionally appear on an axe and some destroyable tree trunks.After the disappointing Marvel's Avengers, one would have been forgiven for being skeptical that a superhero game published by Square Enix could deliver the goods.Title Drop: The virus can be fixed by doing a Master Reboot.
The first area the player is dropped into in particular, with its fantastic sunbeam effects. Scenery Porn: The biggest reason why the game was made.Plot-Triggering Death: Astrid's loss in the Soul Cloud crash.The Nothing After Death: The reason Madison develops the Soul Cloud.The Metaverse: The various memories in the Soul Cloud are like private versions of this.And now you have very little time to fix it. The virus caused the accident and broken memories. Turns out you're Madison, the CEO and main programmer of Mysteri and you plugged in to fix the Soul Cloud. Most of the game is about recovering these memories. Laser-Guided Amnesia / I Am Who?: You play a character that suffers an accident while being uploaded to the Soul Cloud, with no hints of who you are.The Mysteri Group takes its name from Mister David Ree.The scream that the player hears whenever they examine the purple glyphs throughout the game can qualify for this when one isn't expecting them, even if they are rather quiet.After the lights go out after the initial exposition dump infomercial, the player starts to proceed down a newly-opened corridor, before being startled by a sudden, "INTRUSION DETECTED.Jump Scare: seren.exe has a bit of a habit of bursting out of closets to throttle the player.Hub Level: The player eventually gains access to one of these, after having been introduced to what the Soul Cloud actually is.Glowing Eyes of Doom: seren.exe's eyes.Escape Sequence: One of the earlier memories ends with the player being chased by a giant demonic teddy bear, while occasionally being blocked by force fields that can only be turned off by clicking swarms of cryptic error messages.Depending on your views, the normal ending might be more of a Bittersweet Ending as Madison might find David, even though she's dead. Downer Ending: The game has two possible endings, one of them being this.Even the infomercial that introduces the player to the setting portrays her with unnervingly-thin eyes.
